Sakiusa Bainivalu, a Year 12 student from Queen Victoria School, is gearing up to represent Fiji at the 2025 Asian Youth International Model United Nations (AYIMUN) set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This prestigious event will welcome youth leaders from across the globe, offering them a platform to exchange ideas and tackle pressing global issues.

Scheduled for January 17-20 of next year, AYIMUN is organized by the International Global Network (IGN). Sakiusa is thrilled about this opportunity as it marks his first time representing Fiji in such an event. The native of Tabuya, Nabukelevu-ira, Kadavu expressed his excitement, stating, “This is a huge breakthrough for me. To be selected out of thousands of participants and to be around other people and share thoughts and opinions is phenomenal.”

His selection followed the submission of a compelling essay addressing social issues within Fiji, including domestic violence, rising illicit drug cases, and the loss of culture, detailing their societal impacts. “I expressed my opinion on how attending the International MUN conference can mold me into a productive and inspiring leader,” he remarked.

With an investment of U.S. $779 (FJ $1785) made by his parents for expenses such as accommodation, transport, and food, Sakiusa is determined to leverage this experience in his future studies. Upon returning, he plans to pursue a career in medicine, focusing on non-communicable diseases.

This experience not only signifies a personal achievement for Sakiusa but also showcases Fiji’s potential in nurturing young leaders who can contribute positively to global discussions. It’s a hopeful reminder that the voices and ideas of youth are crucial in navigating the complexities of today’s world.

Summary: Sakiusa Bainivalu, a student from Queen Victoria School, is set to represent Fiji in the AYIMUN 2025 in Malaysia. He is excited about sharing insights on social issues and aspires to become a leader in medicine after the conference.
