Fiji’s Rural Schools Receive 50 Laptops to Boost Digital Learning

Asco Motors, along with the Asco Motors Foundation, has made a noteworthy contribution to educational advancements in Fiji by donating 50 laptops aimed at elevating digital literacy among students, particularly those in rural and maritime schools. This donation represents a significant effort to bridge the technology gap in these areas, where students have historically shown hesitance in using laptops and computers, impacting their engagement with modern teaching methods.

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that it will provide students with a critical platform to become more accustomed to technology within their learning environments. “As we have encountered during our visits to schools in rural and maritime areas, students often have a hesitancy in operating laptops and computers,” Radrodro remarked. The donation thus aims to help students gain both comfort and proficiency with these essential tools.

Furthermore, Radrodro pointed out a positive trend in the education system, noting that student participation in virtual exams has surged from about 10,000 to 12,000. This growth is indicative of the education system’s increasing adaptation to technological advancements and the broadening access to educational resources throughout the country. “It speaks to our future of learning across the nation,” he added.

To ensure the longevity and efficacy of the provided laptops, Datec will offer a year of technical support, facilitating schools in fully utilizing these devices for educational purposes. This commitment underlines the collaborative effort to improve educational infrastructure across Fiji, akin to previous initiatives where secondary schools received substantial donations for technology upgrades.

This multifaceted approach not only enhances students’ digital skills but also aligns with ongoing government efforts to improve educational resources nationally. Overall, such contributions bolster the optimism surrounding Fiji’s educational future, providing a pathway for students to thrive in an increasingly digital world. As these initiatives continue, there is hope that all students, regardless of geographical or socioeconomic barriers, can achieve greater academic success and personal growth.
