Fiji’s Rugby Team Prepares for Battle: Coaching Insights and Strategy Unveiled

The coaching approach of Flying Fijians assistant coach Aaron Mauger has greatly benefited the players, according to head coach Mick Byrne. In an interview, Byrne emphasized the exceptional rugby knowledge that Mauger imparts to the squad, enabling players to learn extensively during training sessions.

Mauger, a former All Blacks player with 46 Test appearances and 89 Super Rugby matches for the Crusaders, has previous coaching experience with the Highlanders and Moana Pasifika. Byrne described Mauger’s coaching style as detailed and teacher-like, allowing players to gain valuable insights on the field.

As the Fiji Water sponsored national rugby team prepares for a physical match against the USA in the Pacific Nations Cup semi-final, Byrne acknowledges the strength of the USA team, which is well-coached and plays an expansive style of rugby. He noted that the USA’s physicality and kicking game would be key factors to watch during the match.

Byrne highlighted the impressive performances of returning players Meli Derenalagi, Kitione Salawa, and Elia Canakaivata throughout the tournament. He encouraged the team to focus on retaining possession and adhering to their game plan.
