Eight members of Fiji’s national men’s sevens extended squad have been selected to represent the Mike Friday Select Sevens team at the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament. Nominated by head coach Osea Kolinisau, the selected players include Viliame Naikausa, Rubeni Kabu, Suliano Volivoli, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Sakiusa Siqila, Rauto Vakadranu, and Alipate Biu.
They will join notable players such as Jerry Tuwai, former Ireland captain Harry McNulty, USA’s Matai Leuta, and Rosko Specman. Jay Whyte, chairman of the tournament organizing committee, emphasized that the Mike Friday Select 7s team is a new addition to this event, enhancing the level of competition. He also noted that Luke Treharne from Wales and Alexandre Odinga from France will be part of the team, making this a truly international event in Fiji.
This tournament provides a vital opportunity for the eight selected players to showcase their skills with the hope of being included in the men’s squad for the HSBC SVSN Perth Sevens tournament, scheduled for January 24 to 26. The Coral Coast 7s will take place from January 16 to 18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
