Fiji’s Terio Tamani has been named Player of the Match following a stunning performance that led the Hyderabad Heroes to a commanding 43-12 victory over the Kalinga Black Tigers during the Rugby Premier League sevens competition in India. Tamani’s outstanding play earned him a cash award of 30,000 rupees, approximately $780 FJD.
The Hyderabad Heroes remain undefeated, showcasing their strength in the league. Teammate Joji Nasova was instrumental as well, contributing with two tries in the match. Tamani, reflecting on the teamwork that propelled their success, expressed gratitude towards his fellow players, emphasizing the welcoming atmosphere of the Indian league and its embrace of diverse cultures.
He noted that this tournament may mark their last chance to play together, as Nasova is set to depart for the Fijian Drua. “I think this is the last time we are playing together before he departs for Fijian Drua. Best wishes for Joji for the next season’s signing,” he said.
Tamani also extended his thanks to supporters back home in Fiji for their prayers and encouragement. As the tournament unfolds, three more matches are scheduled for tomorrow, including a game featuring the Heroes against the Mumbai Dreamers.
The presence of notable Fijian players in the league underscores an exciting time for the sport in India, fostering local talent and bringing international flair. This inaugural Rugby Premier League not only highlights the potential growth of rugby in the region but also aims to inspire a new generation of players and fans, paving the way for the sport’s brighter future.
