Fiji Airways’ men’s rugby sevens player Joji Nasova has made significant strides in his career, finishing the HSBC SVNS Series as part of the 2025 HSBC SVNS Men’s Dream Team, and tying for the top try-scorer in the men’s competition with an impressive 26 tries, alongside Argentina’s Marcos Moneta. This achievement makes him only the fourth Fijian to earn this accolade, following in the footsteps of sevens legends like Vilimoni Delasau, Nasoni Roko, and Samisoni Viriviri.

Nasova’s journey has been remarkable; he showcased his talent during crucial moments this season, including scoring two tries in the men’s cup semi-final against Argentina at the Dubai Sevens, contributing to a decisive 43-21 victory for Fiji. The team ultimately clinched the tournament title by defeating Spain in the cup final.

Joining the Dream Team alongside notable players such as Harry Glover from Great Britain and Luciano Gonzalez from Argentina, Nasova debuted in the white jumper at the Hong Kong Sevens earlier this season. His performance was noteworthy, especially given that he was only four months removed from representing Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands, where they secured a gold medal.

Reflecting on his journey, the Toge, Ba native shared that he dedicated himself to rugby fully, having neither completed high school nor held a stable job. His commitment to the sport has allowed him to support his family and also fostered a solid bond with his brother, Iliavi Masori, who is part of the national sevens extended squad.

This season, Nasova not only clinched the title for the most tries but also emerged as the top point scorer with 158 points, marking the first time since 2020 that a Fijian achieved this.

Looking ahead, the men’s sevens team is on a two-week break before regrouping for training sessions in preparation for the upcoming Perth Sevens tournament, scheduled for January 24-26. Nasova’s story exemplifies dedication and teamwork, offering inspiration to many upcoming athletes in Fiji and beyond. His achievements signal a hopeful outlook for both his personal development and the future of Fijian rugby on the international stage.
