Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens player Joji Nasova is determined to capture the series title with his team next season. The native of Toge, Ba, recently celebrated a victory at the HSBC SVNS title after competing in 25 tournaments.
Nasova expressed his delight over the win, attributing it to the team’s collective effort. At 26 years old, his impressive tackles led him to debut at the Hong Kong Sevens just four months after representing Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games held in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Three months later, he contributed to the team’s success as a silver medalist at the Paris Olympic Games in July, a significant achievement in his burgeoning career. Nasova thanked God for his blessings and emphasized the importance of teamwork and discipline on and off the field to achieve next year’s goals.
Reflecting on his journey, Nasova shared that he did not finish high school or have a stable job, but he dedicated himself to rugby, which has allowed him to support his family. His brother, Iliavi Masori, was also part of the extended national sevens squad, and they played together in the Pacific Games.
The men’s sevens team is currently on a two-week break before resuming training in January to prepare for the Perth 7s, scheduled for January 24-26.
This story showcases the power of perseverance and teamwork in achieving dreams. Joji Nasova’s journey is not just about personal success but also about supporting his family and inspiring others through sport. As the team prepares for future tournaments, there is hope for continued growth and accomplishment in the world of rugby sevens.
