The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League (FSSRL) competitions have officially kicked off today, featuring matches in both the eastern and western zones. This year’s tournament is set to be particularly intense, with over 100 teams joining the competition, as indicated by FSSRL president Naisa Toko.
Toko expressed excitement about the upcoming season, emphasizing the anticipated thrill of the games. He noted, “Hopefully we will start this week, for both western and south-eastern zones.” Matches in the eastern zone will be played at the Saint Marcelin Grounds in Suva, while the western zone will see action at various venues, including Natabua High School in Lautoka, Garvey Park in Tavua, and Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
Toko also encouraged fans to come out in large numbers to support their teams, reinforcing the sense of community that such events foster within the region. The enthusiasm for school sports is echoed by other recent events, such as the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championships, which recently saw remarkable participation from students in Lautoka.
This vibrant start to the rugby league season highlights the growing engagement in youth athletics in Fiji, providing an excellent platform for young athletes to showcase their talents while enhancing community spirit. With the promise of competitive matches ahead, fans can look forward to an invigorating season that not only entertains but also nurtures the development of future sporting heroes.
