Wests Tigers’ standout five-eighth, Losana Lutu, is one of eight players chosen to represent the Fiji Bulikula in the upcoming Pacific Bowl Championship. This announcement was made by Bulikula head coach Joe Rabele over the weekend.

Rabele mentioned, “We traveled to Australia to scout talent and selected eight players, including the impressive halfback Losana Lutu.” Originally from Suva, Lutu has progressed rapidly through the ranks of Wests Tigers and has a Campbelltown Junior background.

Lutu is recognized for her strong running game and had a breakout year in 2022. She played a crucial role in NSW’s victory in the Under-19s State of Origin and contributed to Wests Tigers clinching the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership title. She is contracted with the club until the conclusion of the 2026 season.

As the Fiji Bulikula prepares for a vital match against Cook Islands Moana on October 26 in Suva, which doubles as a qualifier for the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup, Rabele is focused on assembling the most effective team. He stated, “We’ve been observing women’s games in the local leagues,” highlighting his experience coaching the Bati to the semi-finals of the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.

Currently, Rabele is evaluating potential players for a 35-member squad, pending approval from the National Rugby League regarding player eligibility. He indicated that he sees ample opportunity for enhancement, particularly within the local competition.

“The qualifier is a significant match for us,” he said. Rabele is determined to secure a spot in the 2026 Women’s Rugby League World Cup and recognizes the importance of strategically managing the qualifiers.

“We have a solid team, but we’re waiting for clearance from the NRL. I’ve included several secondary school players who currently play for Lami Steelers in this qualifier,” he explained. Rabele intends for half of the 35-member squad to comprise locally-based players.

Reflecting on the previous year’s absence in the World Cup, Rabele noted, “This year is beneficial as it allows us to identify our players. The roster we will announce will feature a good mix of talent.”
