Iliavi Masori is overjoyed to join the Fiji men’s rugby sevens training squad for the second time, fulfilling a dream along the way. Hailing from the village of Toge in Ba, Masori is the younger brother of Jioji Nasove, a silver medallist in men’s rugby sevens at the Paris Olympic Games.
Expressing gratitude towards his family for their support, Masori remarked on the unexpected nature of his selection for the national sevens team, especially after previously being sidelined due to injuries. He is truly thankful for his second opportunity, stating that he is enjoying the intense training sessions, particularly because he gets to train alongside his elder brother, Nasove.
Despite facing setbacks like injuries, Masori remains determined in his rugby journey and is focused on refining his skills. He noted the differences in coaching styles between Ben Gollings and Osea Kolinisau, specifically mentioning Kolinisau’s emphasis on dietary guidance during training sessions. Looking ahead, Masori hopes to make his debut at the upcoming Dubai Sevens tournament, scheduled for November 30 to December 1. He is ready to fully embrace any opportunity that comes his way and is dedicated to improving his performance.
In a separate note, the Fiji men’s sevens team is aiming to end their winless streak in the HSBC Sevens World Series at the Dubai tournament. Veteran player Suliano Volivoli acknowledged the challenges faced by the team, but emphasized their perseverance in training. With a mix of experienced and new players, Volivoli is confident in their cohesion and performance as they prepare for the tournament. He highlighted Kolinisau’s encouragement to remain hopeful and the importance of solid preparation in their pursuit of victory.
This positive shift in Masori’s rugby career, coupled with the team’s collective effort to reestablish their dominance in sevens rugby, brings hope not only to the players but also to their fans. As they gear up for the Dubai Sevens, both Masori and the team exemplify resilience and determination in the face of adversity, aiming to achieve their goals on the international stage.
