Rookie Flying Fijians lock Setareki Turagacoke is focusing on Ireland’s No.8, Caelan Doris, ahead of their Test match scheduled for Sunday morning (Fiji time) at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The 18-year-old expressed his respect for Doris, calling him one of the top forwards in the Ireland team.
“I have to adhere to the game plan laid out by the coaches if given the opportunity to play against Ireland,” Turagacoke, who is currently with French Top 14 club Stade Francais, stated. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Ireland, whom he regarded as one of the premier rugby teams globally.
Although currently named on the reserve bench, Turagacoke has been following Doris closely and appreciates his style of play. He emphasized the need for the Fijian team to minimize any openings for Doris, particularly noting Ireland’s strength in scrummaging.
Grateful for the opportunity to compete at this level, Turagacoke reflected on his journey from watching these players on television to now representing Fiji in international rugby. He highlighted how playing for his nation has been a childhood dream and feels fortunate to be part of the team. Turagacoke joined the squad as a replacement for the injured Isoa Nasilasila and made his debut last Sunday against Spain, where he impressively scored a try.
“The team is brimming with excitement for this match,” he shared. “We all have faith in one another for Saturday’s (Sunday, Fiji time) game, and I believe we can secure a win.”
The match kicks off at 3:10 AM.
Fiji’s lineup features notable players, including co-captain Waisea Nayacalevu and Caleb Muntz. Meanwhile, Ireland will rely on the captaincy of Caelan Doris and showcase talents like Bundee Aki and Robbie Henshaw.
This match is significant not only for the players but also for fans who are passionate about rugby and support their teams fiercely. As the Flying Fijians prepare to face a formidable opponent, it serves as a reminder of their growth and determination in the sport. With Turagacoke’s positive mindset and his team’s commitment, there’s a hopeful anticipation for a competitive showdown.
In summary, the Flying Fijians look forward to a challenging but promising encounter against Ireland, bolstered by the excitement and talent of their young players.
