In his New Year’s address to the nation, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka offered heartfelt wishes for a prosperous 2025, encouraging Fijians to foster unity, hope, and resilience as they look toward the future. He highlighted 2025 as a significant milestone, marking the 55th anniversary of Fiji’s independence, referred to as the Emerald Jubilee.

Prime Minister Rabuka asked citizens to reflect on the year 2024, a time he characterized as a period of resilience, urging them to be inspired by the nation’s progress while remaining prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. He extended his appreciation to civil servants, first responders, and the defense forces for their unwavering commitment over the past year, as well as recognizing the contributions made by Fiji’s international missions to elevate the nation’s global presence.

Addressing the political turmoil of recent years, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s dedication to healing and reconciliation. He spoke about the importance of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a crucial step towards fostering national unity and forgiveness.

Furthermore, Rabuka identified poverty alleviation as a primary focus for his administration, detailing the government’s innovative “one village at a time” strategy aimed at enhancing livelihoods. The Coalition Government is also prioritizing substantial investments in housing, sanitation, and infrastructure, which are essential for laying a solid foundation for long-term economic and social development.

This message of unity, resilience, and proactive measures positions Fiji on a hopeful path as it prepares to celebrate its independence milestone while striving to overcome past challenges.

By concentrating on healing, community support, and sustainable growth, the government aims to create an inclusive future for all Fijians.
