Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, alongside Fiji’s Ambassador to China, His Excellency Robert Lee, is currently engaged in a two-day visit to the Northern Division. The purpose of this visit is to assess the proposed improvements slated for the Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project.
This significant initiative, backed by a FJD $300 million grant from the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aims to enhance road infrastructure in Fiji. Prime Minister Rabuka underscored the necessity of involving local communities in the project. During the visit, key segments of the road inspected included:
– A 15 km stretch from Nabouwalu Road (Bua) to Nasolo
– A 35 km segment from Nabalebaleb to Dogoru along the Waillevu West Coast Road
Fiji Roads Manager North, Mr. Delana Rabalaka, participated in the inspection, offering valuable technical insights. The delegation also attended a briefing led by Provincial Administrator Savusavu, Mr. Jovesa Naqarikau, discussing the significant economic potential the improved infrastructure could unlock for the region.
Ambassador Lee expressed his positive outlook on the project, stating that it will strengthen infrastructure while fostering regional growth.
