The Fiji Police Force is currently looking into a serious incident that occurred on Friday, involving a collision between a container trailer and a minibus transporting six passengers. The accident took place around midday near Lokuya Hill, beyond the Verata Junction, along Kings Road, as it approached Korovou Town in Tailevu North.
Following the accident, both drivers and all six passengers were promptly taken to Korovou Hospital for medical attention. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
In light of this incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, who oversees Traffic, has called on public service vehicle (PSV) drivers to exercise greater caution while driving. He commented on the worrying trend of accidents involving PSVs, emphasizing that this marks the second incident of its kind in just one week, resulting in innocent passengers suffering consequences on the roads.
This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for all drivers, especially those operating commercial vehicles, to prioritize the well-being of their passengers and other road users. With ongoing investigations, there is hope for improved safety measures to be implemented and for incidents like these to be reduced in the future.
Safety on the roads is a collective responsibility, and awareness can lead to positive change.
