A man in his 50s has sadly become the latest casualty on Fiji’s roads, as reported by the Fiji Police Force. The incident, characterized as a hit-and-run, occurred late on the 25th of June along the Queens Highway, near Nabou, after 11 PM.
The victim was driving his vehicle when another car, allegedly from the opposite direction, veered into his lane, resulting in the collision. The driver responsible for the crash subsequently fled the scene. Authorities have initiated a search for the suspect’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, two other individuals involved in the incident are currently hospitalized, receiving treatment.
This tragic event reflects an ongoing concern regarding road safety in Fiji, with a notable increase in hit-and-run incidents recently highlighted by local law enforcement. In a similar vein, just days prior, another hit-and-run incident took place in Colo-I-Suva involving a man in his 30s, which has raised alarm about pedestrian safety and driver behavior in the area.
There is hope that the community will rally together to assist police in finding the responsible party, bringing some measure of justice to the victims and their families. Authorities are reinforcing the importance of adherence to road safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future, underscoring the broader goal of fostering a safer driving environment for everyone.
As investigations continue, it remains crucial for the public to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that may aid ongoing inquiries.
