The Fiji Police Force is currently investigating an accident that took place on Friday when a container trailer collided with a minibus carrying six passengers. The incident occurred around midday near Lokuya Hill, just past Verata Junction, along Kings Road, while en route to Korovou Town in Tailevu North.
Authorities have confirmed that both drivers, as well as the six passengers, were transported to Korovou Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment following the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Police director of Traffic, is urging public service vehicle (PSV) drivers to stay alert and vigilant while driving.
“This marks the second incident this week involving PSVs, highlighting that innocent passengers are becoming victims on our roads,” stated SSP Divuana.
This incident underscores the need for enhanced safety measures and awareness among drivers to prevent further accidents and protect the lives of passengers on public transportation.
Overall, it is essential for drivers to adopt safe driving habits and for authorities to continue addressing road safety concerns to ensure the welfare of all road users. By taking proactive steps, there is hope that such incidents can be minimized in the future, fostering safer transportation in Fiji.
