The Fiji Roads Authority is set to expand several roads along the Suva-Nausori corridor, converting them into four-lane thoroughfares to alleviate persistent traffic congestion. The roads earmarked for widening include Ratudovi Road from Nadera to Laqere, Fletcher Road from Nanuku to Laucala Bay Road, and Princess Road from Khalsa Rd to Samabula.

During a recent Parliament session, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau emphasized that these improvements are part of a larger medium- to long-term infrastructure development strategy. The minister also discussed plans for the transport sector’s sustainable development, which encompass a decarbonization implementation strategy. This includes evaluating Fiji’s existing transport emissions, pinpointing areas for enhancement, and establishing clear and measurable targets for improvement.

By investing in infrastructure and focusing on sustainability, Fiji is taking significant steps toward a more efficient and eco-friendly transport system, which could ultimately benefit both residents and the environment.

In summary, the initiative not only aims to ease traffic burdens but also aligns with global sustainability goals. This progressive approach highlights Fiji’s commitment to infrastructural enhancement and environmental responsibility, paving the way for a better future.
