Eight players from the national men’s sevens extended squad have been chosen to represent the Mike Friday Select Sevens team at the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament. This selection comes from nominations made by head coach Osea Kolinisau.
The selected players include Viliame Naikausa, Rubeni Kabu, Suliano Volivoli, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Sakiusa Siqila, Rauto Vakadranu, and Alipate Biu. They will join notable talents such as Jerry Tuwai, former Ireland captain Harry McNulty, and USA players Matai Leuta and Rosko Specman.
Tournament organizing committee chairman Jay Whyte shared that the Mike Friday Select Sevens team is a new addition to the competition, emphasizing its significance. He highlighted the involvement of international players like Luke Treharne from Wales and Alexandre Odinga from France, noting that it transforms the event into a world-class showcase in Fiji.
The participation of these eight athletes not only serves as an opportunity to compete but also a chance to earn a spot in the men’s squad for the HSBC SVSN Perth sevens tournament scheduled for January 24 to 26. The Coral Coast 7s will take place over three days from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
