Fiji’s Rising Stars Gear Up for Coral Coast 7s Challenge

Eight players from the national men’s sevens extended squad have been chosen to compete for the Mike Friday Select Sevens team at the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament. This selection was made by head coach Osea Kolinisau.

The selected athletes include Viliame Naikausa, Rubeni Kabu, Suliano Volivoli, Jope Tikomailepanoni, Iliavi Masori, Sakiusa Siqila, Rauto Vakadranu, and Alipate Biu. They will be joined by notable players such as Jerry Tuwai, former Ireland captain Harry McNulty, Matai Leuta from the USA, and Rosko Specman.

Tournament organizing committee chairman Jay Whyte highlighted that the Mike Friday Select 7s team is a new feature of this year’s event, which will also see contributions from players Luke Treharne from Wales and Alexandre Odinga from France. This blend of talent promises a world-class experience at the tournament in Fiji.

The selected Fiji players will utilize this tournament as an opportunity to secure a spot in the men’s squad for the HSBC SVSN Perth sevens tournament, scheduled for January 24-26.

The Coral Coast 7s will take place over three days, from January 16-18, at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

This tournament not only showcases local talent but also attracts international players, creating a vibrant atmosphere for rugby enthusiasts. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the selected players to prove themselves on a competitive stage, potentially opening doors for their future in the sevens circuit.
