Athletics Fiji’s head coach, Albert Miller, has praised the performances at the Suva Zone Two Athletics competitions, which took place at HFC Bank Stadium. With the Pacific Mini Games on the horizon, Miller and his coaching staff are closely observing several burgeoning talents displayed during the event.
Miller highlighted the commendable performances from smaller schools such as Jai Narayan College, Nabua Secondary, and Nuku Secondary School, which have shown remarkable competitiveness against larger institutions. “We’ve been keeping an eye on a few athletes here at the zone and we are impressed with what we’ve seen. We’re also happy to see smaller schools come out very strongly for the zone,” Miller expressed.
The event’s standout moments included the 800-meter finals for both boys and girls across various grades, culminating with the senior boys’ 4×400 relay set to take place at 3:20 PM. The competitive spirit exhibited, especially from smaller schools, signals a positive trend in the enhancement of athletics in Fiji.
Miller’s focus on increasing participation and development in athletics reflects ongoing initiatives in the region, reminiscent of his previous calls for coaches to keep the momentum alive after significant events like the Coca-Cola Games. He underscored the importance of year-round engagement programs to nurture athletes.
This proactive strategy under Miller’s leadership shines a hopeful light on the future of athletics in Fiji. With increasing organization and support, both emerging and established athletes are positioned for success in upcoming competitions. The recent developments in the Suva Zone Two competitions align well with the broader aspirations for athletic growth in the region, fostering a nurturing environment for talent to flourish.
