Mereia Turaganivalu from Team Fiji has won a bronze medal in the Women’s 59kg Youth division at the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships taking place at Vodafone Arena in Suva. The 14-year-old student from Gospel High School achieved a snatch lift of 53kg and a clean and jerk lift of 70kg, totaling 123kg. Turaganivalu mentioned that she finds motivation in her mother and aunt, who are both former weightlifters, and feels honored to continue her family’s legacy.
