Fiji’s Rising Star Shines at Tough Namosi Challenge

Fiji’s prominent long-distance runner, Yeshnil Karan, and his team secured second place at the Namosi Challenge, recognized as “Fiji’s Toughest Race,” which took place in the Namosi highlands on Saturday.

Karan led his team in the 10km team race, finishing first among his team members. However, they ultimately finished in second place overall due to other team members arriving late.

This marked Karan’s inaugural participation in the Namosi marathon, and he shared his enthusiasm for competing alongside his coach, Isireli Naikelekelevesi.

Although the team did not clinch the top spot, Karan described the experience as exhilarating, enjoying the distinct challenge of the mountainous terrain despite the rain.

“This is my first ever Namosi marathon in the 10km team race, and it’s wonderful to see my coach, Isireli Naikelekelevesi, participating as well,” Karan expressed.

“I managed to finish first for my team, but despite not winning overall, it was a great race,” he added. “The challenge was incredible; the mountains and hills provide a unique atmosphere while running, and even with the rain, the scenery was beautiful.”

Reflecting on the demanding nature of the competition, Karan acknowledged the difficulties posed by the hilly landscape but felt proud to have been the top finisher for his team. He expressed gratitude to the Suva marathon organizers and event sponsors for their support.

Karan also extended his thanks to his coach and family for their encouragement. Taking a break from his regular training, he viewed the Namosi Challenge as a chance to assess his skills and have fun.

He appreciated the event’s turnout, relishing the opportunity to enjoy the stunning highland scenery while pushing his physical limits.
