Rookie Flying Fijians lock Setareki Turagacoke has expressed his anticipation for the upcoming Test match against Ireland, highlighting the need to focus on Ireland’s formidable No. 8, Caelan Doris. Scheduled for Sunday morning (Fiji time) at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Turagacoke recognizes Doris as one of Ireland’s top forwards.
The 18-year-old, who is part of the French Top 14 club Stade Francais, emphasized the importance of adhering to the game plan established by the coaching staff if he gets the chance to play. He anticipates a challenging match against Ireland, who are regarded as one of the leading teams globally.
Even though Turagacoke is on the reserve bench, he admires Doris’ playing style and has closely followed his development. He stressed the necessity of effectively managing Doris and addressing Ireland’s proficiency in scrums.
Reflecting on his journey, Turagacoke feels a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to compete alongside players he once idolized on television. “Representing our beloved nation in international rugby is a dream come true,” he stated, recalling his focus on the Top 14 competition with Stade Francais.
He joined the national squad to replace the injured Isoa Nasilasila and made a remarkable debut, scoring a try against Spain last Sunday in Valladolid. The young player conveyed the team’s excitement for the match, expressing optimism and faith in their potential performance.
The match is set to kick off at 3:10 AM Fiji time, and both teams are poised for an intense battle.
Fiji’s starting line-up features notable players such as co-captain Waisea Nayacalevu and Josua Tuisova. Meanwhile, Ireland’s team will be led by captain Caelan Doris, supported by a strong roster.
In a sport where age and experience often combine to create champions, Turagacoke’s youthful exuberance may inject fresh energy into the Flying Fijians, paving the way for a thrilling encounter against a seasoned Irish side.
The anticipation surrounding this match signifies not only the competitiveness of international rugby but also the potential for emerging talents like Turagacoke to shine on the world stage.
