Peter Charles Ravai, a former defender for Fiji’s U20 football team, has recently elevated his career by signing with Gulf United in the United Arab Emirates. The 21-year-old has quickly become a key player for the team, even taking on the role of captain in several matches shortly after his arrival last month.
Ravai recently had the opportunity to train in Dubai with renowned German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who plays for Manchester City. Reflecting on this experience, Ravai expressed how training with Gundogan has been a career highlight, noting the immense value of learning from one of the world’s top midfielders, particularly given Gundogan’s extensive experience, including participation in FIFA World Cups.
“I have grown much more in terms of being a footballer after signing a professional contract,” Ravai shared, indicating his excitement for future challenges. He is grateful to Gulf United for the opportunities provided and appreciates the welcoming and supportive environment of his new club. Having already captained the team, he aims to continue learning and improving his skills.
Despite his current club commitments, Ravai expressed a strong desire to represent the senior national team, the Bula Boys, in upcoming matches. He is optimistic about the team’s chances in the World Cup qualifiers and believes in the squad’s talent to make Fiji proud. “I certainly hope to return in national colors soon,” he stated.
Ravai’s journey highlights the potential of young footballers from Fiji and serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes as they pursue opportunities in international football. His eagerness to contribute to his national team reinforces the pride and hope that comes with representing one’s country on a global stage.
