Inspector Mavis Fatiaki is departing today for Canberra, Australia, to further the esteemed tradition of secondment duties with the Australian Federal Police as part of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) Programme.
IP Fatiaki, who is a graduate of the 2013 Cadet Program, earned her Master’s degree in International Policing with a focus on Public Security from the People’s Public Security University in Beijing, China. She has previously served as Station Officer at Vunidawa and more recently at the Korovou Police Station.
Her selection for this role followed a comprehensive selection process where she competed against law enforcement officers from across the region.
This secondment is facilitated by the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Australian Federal Police and the Fiji Police Force, allowing IP Fatiaki to join a group of young Fijian police officers working with the PCLEC Delivery Capability Team (DCT). This team is dedicated to coordinating Pacific-led initiatives aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Pacific police organizations.
Founded in 2020, the DCT focuses on executing Pacific capability initiatives aligned with the strategic priorities established by PICP, adhering to the PCLEC’s guiding principles of “By the Pacific, for the Pacific,” while reflecting the values and mission of the PICP.
Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew expressed that IP Mavis’ selection was expected, recognizing her accomplishments as a young leader and showcasing her capabilities. He extended the organization’s best wishes for her six-month secondment, highlighting her role in continuing the Fiji Police’s commitment to aiding fellow law enforcement agencies in the Pacific region.
