Inspector Mavis Fatiaki has departed for Canberra, Australia, to continue the tradition of secondment duties with the Australian Federal Police as part of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) Pacific Community for Law Enforcement Cooperation (PCLEC) Programme.
Having graduated from the People’s Public Security University in Beijing, China, with a Master’s in International Policing Major in Public Security, Fatiaki is a product of the 2013 Cadet Program. She has previously served as Station Officer at Vunidawa and more recently at the Korovou Police Station.
Fatiaki was selected for this position after a competitive selection process that included law enforcement officers from across the region. Her secondment is facilitated by the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Australian Federal Police and the Fiji Police Force, allowing her to work with the PCLEC Delivery Capability Team (DCT). This team focuses on coordinating initiatives for capacity development tailored to Pacific Police organizations.
The DCT was established in 2020 to implement Pacific capability initiatives aligned with the strategic priorities set by the PICP, guided by the core principle of being “By the Pacific, for the Pacific,” in line with the values and mission of the PICP.
Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew stated that Fatiaki’s selection was not unexpected, recognizing her as a young and emerging leader. He extended best wishes for her six-month secondment, highlighting that she continues the proud legacy of the Fiji Police in supporting fellow law enforcement bodies across the Pacific.
