Fijian captain Estelle Kainamoli has continued to excel by leading her team to a silver medal at the 2023 Pacific Games in the 3×3 basketball event. Currently, Kainamoli is attending the inaugural FIBA 3×3 High-Performance Camp in Gold Coast, Australia, part of FIBA Oceania’s initiative aimed at empowering women in basketball.
The camp gathers more than 70 female participants from 15 national federations throughout the Pacific, focusing on enhancing skills both on and off the court. “The camp has been a great experience. I’ve learned so much, not just about basketball, but also about mental health, nutrition, and emotional well-being,” Kainamoli stated.
Fiji’s delegation at the camp includes coach Sera Vugakoto, players Camari Ravai, Ranadi Koroi, Moana Liebregts, and referee Ella Koroi. The initiative aims to promote the 3×3 discipline, recognized as the fastest-growing urban sport globally.
Kainamoli, a third-year university student, is enthusiastic about the future of 3×3 basketball in the Pacific region. “3×3 is a great sport for us because it’s easier to form teams. It’s fast-paced and unpredictable, which adds excitement,” she explained.
The next major goal for Kainamoli and her teammates is the 2025 Mini Games in Palau, where they aspire to secure a gold medal.
