Ilisapeci Bari, a debutant player, is filled with pride as she gears up to represent Fiji and the Fiji Bulikula team in the upcoming Pacific Bowl Championships. The 19-year-old rising star from Tavua expressed her gratitude for the chance to fulfill her lifelong dream of playing rugby for her country, a dream that she shared with her grandmother.

Bari hails from a family with a rich rugby heritage; her father, Manasa Bari, has played for the Highlanders in Super Rugby and has also represented Fiji in the national 7s team. Bari remarked, “I’m overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunity. It was my grandmother’s and my dream to represent my country, especially in rugby. Following my dad’s legacy feels great.”

Eager to represent her country, Bari is committed to making her family and nation proud with her performance on the field. “My goal is to make my country and family proud; they will be watching me. Although I feel a lot of pressure leading up to the match, having my family’s support motivates me,” she said.

Bari’s father expressed his pride upon hearing the news of her selection for the team, acknowledging the significance of his daughter representing Fiji at such a young age. “When my dad learned about my selection, he was happy because having one of his children represent Fiji is something special. He is incredibly proud,” Bari shared.

He reminded her that everything happens according to God’s plan, instilling in her the belief that she is destined for greatness.

The Fiji Bulikula will face the Cook Islands at 6 PM, followed by the Vodafone Fiji Bati taking on the Cook Islands at 8:10 PM. Both matches will be held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
