Fiji’s promising rugby talent, Iliesa Erenavula, is preparing for the Oceania Rugby U20 Challenge in New Zealand, determined to enhance his performance after last year’s campaign. The 19-year-old lock, who comes from Nadroga and has ties to Nadi, is already a vital player for the national squad, having represented Fiji at the Junior Rugby World Cup in South Africa.

Erenavula’s commitment to improvement is clear as he aims to help his team secure victories in all their matches during the Super 20 competition. “As a team, our goal is to secure victories in all our matches,” he stated, also sharing his personal aspiration to land a professional rugby contract by the year’s end.

The team’s preparation includes intense training sessions at Bidesi Park in Suva, where players focus on fitness, skill enhancement, and strategic teamwork. Erenavula highlights the necessity for adaptability and a fresh mindset as they gear up to face the competition in New Zealand. His proactive approach, alongside that of his teammates, demonstrates a collective determination to achieve success.

Erenavula will be joining a mix of seasoned and young players, including several 18-year-olds, which is crucial for laying a strong foundation for the future. This aligns with the plans of head coach Senirusi Seruvakula, who has emphasized nurturing talent and cohesion within the team for improved outcomes in the current and future competitions.

The Oceania Rugby U20 Challenge is not just a platform for showcasing talent, but also provides invaluable experience that can propel players like Erenavula into successful rugby careers. With rigorous training and strategic development, Fiji’s young athletes are setting themselves up for potential triumphs on the international stage, signaling a hopeful outlook for the future of Fijian rugby.
