Shakeel Pillay and Rajat Rai will represent Fiji in the Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Championship, scheduled to take place in Japan from October 3 to 6.
Nineteen-year-old Pillay is making his debut in the Championship. Earlier this year, he finished as the runner-up in the Western Amateur Championship and secured seventh place in the Fiji Golf Classic. In 2022, he represented Fiji at the Pacific Mini Games in the Northern Mariana Islands and won the Nadi Open in 2021.
Seventeen-year-old Rai is also making his first appearance at the Championship.
Amitesh Chandra, president of Golf Fiji, expressed pride in sending two players to this prestigious event after a three-year break.
“Golf Fiji is confident that the two players will make us proud at the event, and it is after three years that we are able to send two players,” Chandra stated.
