Fijian professional boxing is entering a thrilling new chapter, highlighted by the recent achievements of Junior Binnu Singh and Mikaele Ravalaca. At the Stratum Constructions ZEG Kings Boxing promotion, both boxers made headlines by claiming prestigious titles: Singh earned the WBA Oceania Interim title in the Super Bantamweight category, while Ravalaca secured the WBA Oceania Lightweight title.
In the night’s main event, Junior Binnu Singh delivered an impressive performance against Thailand’s Apichart Klintai, achieving a technical knockout in the second round. Singh’s victory was marked by a powerful left uppercut followed by a decisive right hook that left Klintai on the canvas, demonstrating Singh’s skill and determination in the ring.
Meanwhile, Mikaele Ravalaca made his mark in the supporting bout, stopping “The Removalist” Francis Chua in what turned out to be a dominant performance. Ravalaca systematically dismantled Chua from the second round onwards, leading his opponent’s corner to throw in the towel in round seven to prevent further punishment. This victory solidified Ravalaca’s status as a rising star in boxing.
After their victories, both fighters expressed interest in facing each other in the ring, albeit at their respective weight classes. Singh indicated he would be ready to fight Ravalaca at 55 kg (Super Bantamweight), emphasizing his willingness to put all his titles on the line. Ravalaca, on the other hand, expressed a desire to face Singh at lightweight, raising the stakes for a potential clash.
The excitement surrounding these matchups has already stirred interest within the boxing community. Adi Narayan, chairman of the Boxing Commission of Fiji, has confirmed that negotiations for a championship fight between Ravalaca and Singh are set to begin once Singh returns from a trip to Australia. Following Singh’s success in securing the WBF Australasian Featherweight title earlier this year, anticipation for the showdown is palpable, especially with both fighters having recently demonstrated their fighting prowess.
This dynamic rivalry not only fosters a healthy competitive spirit but also serves to elevate the status of boxing in Fiji. The promising performances of Singh and Ravalaca could inspire the next generation of fighters and invigorate interest in the sport, signifying a bright future for boxing in the region. Local enthusiasts are eager for what lies ahead as both athletes seek to prove themselves on a larger stage while potentially uniting under the banner of Fijian boxing.
