Joel Abraham has stepped down as the chief executive officer of the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC). Since joining the commission, which was formerly known as the Commerce Commission, in 2013, Abraham has led as CEO since 2016.
In an official statement, the commission highlighted Abraham’s transformative leadership and his unwavering dedication to fostering a regulatory environment that emphasizes fairness, consumer protection, and economic integrity in both Fiji and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Under his guidance, FCCC has prioritized consumer rights by actively combating unfair and unethical business practices through a robust framework of competition and consumer protection.
His tenure has been characterized by significant growth in FCCC’s capabilities and effectiveness, gaining both national and international recognition as a trusted regulatory authority. Most notably, Abraham played a crucial role in establishing the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), which has successfully enhanced regional collaboration and elevated regulatory standards across the Pacific.
Abraham also focused on innovative employee-centric programs such as the iCARE initiative, sustainability packages, and flexible working arrangements, contributing to a progressive workplace culture.
