Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, emphasized the need for the real estate sector to embrace bold, ethical, and forward-looking practices to contribute effectively to the country’s economic recovery. This statement was made during the opening of the 2025 Real Estate Agents Licensing Board (REALB) Annual Conference held in Nadi, where Kamikamica articulated that the real estate industry should focus on community building and national growth, rather than merely selling properties.

Kamikamica highlighted the sector’s potential to shape urban environments that are fair and sustainable, urging stakeholders to navigate challenges such as climate change and technological disruptions. He pointed out that Fiji anticipates a 3.4% GDP growth in 2025, driven by tourism, infrastructure investment, and a significant increase in credit for real estate and construction sectors.

Moreover, he commended REALB for reforming regulations to eliminate unlicensed agents, strengthen disciplinary measures, and enhance consumer protection. These changes are crucial for maintaining trust in the market. Kamikamica welcomed REALB’s digital licensing initiatives, which aim to streamline processes and support industry modernization by promoting efficient, transparent operations.

In light of the evolving business landscape, he urged collaboration among banks, builders, local councils, and legal experts to accelerate service delivery for buyers and investors. The Deputy Prime Minister also mentioned the government’s efforts to improve access to affordable housing through the new National Housing Policy 2025–2030, and encouraged the use of innovative technologies in construction practices to adapt to a changing environment.

Fiji’s real estate sector is at a pivotal moment, with the potential to foster sustainable economic growth while also enhancing community development. The ongoing commitment to modernization and reform in the real estate industry presents a hopeful outlook, as stakeholders work together to build a resilient future for Fiji and its citizens.
