The heavy rain alert that was in effect for Viti Levu, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Kadavu, Lau, Lomaiviti Group, and nearby smaller islands has now been lifted. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, a trough of low pressure is currently hovering over these regions, bringing with it clouds and sporadic showers that are anticipated to persist over the next few days.
The agency has cautioned that localized heavy rainfall could potentially result in flash flooding in low-lying areas, urging residents to stay vigilant.
As the weather impacts the islands, it’s crucial for communities to prepare and remain informed to ensure safety during this period of unstable weather. While the cancellation of the heavy rain alert is a relief, the ongoing monitoring of conditions will be essential to mitigate the risks of flooding.
