The Women’s Fund Fiji (WFF) has initiated its 2024 grant cycle, awarding funding to 17 new grantee partners dedicated to promoting gender equality and fostering substantial social transformation in Fiji. This initiative is a significant step towards empowering women and gender-diverse individuals across the nation.
According to the WFF, the grants align with their mission to support a variety of women’s groups, gender-diverse organizations, and feminist movements, adhering to intersectional feminist principles. The funding for this year focuses on five key areas: Women’s Economic Empowerment, Ending Violence Against Women, Women’s Leadership and Decision-Making, Climate Justice and Humanitarian Action, and Strengthening Women’s Coalitions for Change.
Patricia Naisara, Co-Chair of the Governance Board at WFF, highlighted that many of the partners are focused on rural, semi-rural, and remote communities, which makes their efforts crucial in building resilience and facilitating sustainable change where it is most needed. She emphasized the importance of local leaders in driving social change and honored their commitment to fostering progress within their communities.
Additionally, representatives from the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions expressed their support for the initiative. They acknowledged the WFF’s vital role in advancing gender equality through capacity building and fostering connections among women’s groups. They reiterated their commitment to enhancing women’s decision-making roles and economic advancement in the region.
The 2024 funding cycle has allocated grants to several organizations, including the Cicia Women’s Network, Levukana Women’s Association, Taveuni Empowerment Women’s Support Group, and many others focused on enhancing the well-being of women throughout rural and maritime areas of Fiji.
This initiative not only contributes to gender equality but also enhances the overall social fabric of Fiji, providing hope and opportunities for transformative change across the region. By empowering grassroots organizations, WFF is helping to create a more equitable future where women’s rights are acknowledged and celebrated.
In summary, the Women’s Fund Fiji’s 2024 grant cycle marks an essential effort to not only promote gender equality but also to empower local communities by supporting organizations that work harmoniously in addressing pressing issues faced by women, thereby laying the groundwork for lasting social change.
