PSH Hospitals is establishing itself as a prominent training hub for international medical professionals, highlighted by the recent arrival of Australian clinician Dr. Dylan Foskett to its expanding cardiac program. This initiative is part of the hospital’s commitment to becoming a regional center of excellence in advanced surgical and specialized medical care.
Dr. Foskett was attracted to Fiji upon learning about the enhancements in cardiac services at PSH and the impressive work of esteemed cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Sanjeev Khulbey. He describes the facilities in Nadi as modern and well-maintained, comparable to what he is accustomed to in Sydney. The layout, including operating theaters and intensive care units, allowed for a smooth transition, enabling him to quickly engage in hands-on training.
A standout feature for Dr. Foskett is the exceptional teamwork observed within the hospital, particularly the seamless collaboration between cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery departments. He noted that the communication and flow of patient care reflect standards found in top-tier hospitals in Australia.
Foskett views the opportunity to train under Dr. Khulbey as a pivotal moment in his career, stating that the firsthand experience of observing complex procedures is invaluable, especially early in his professional journey. He appreciates the warm welcome in Fiji, which eased his transition. He also sees significant potential for young Fijian clinicians, citing their ability to take on leadership roles in a smaller health system, thereby influencing the development of their medical fields.
Director and Founder of PSH Hospitals, Parvish Kumar, remarked that Foskett’s experiences highlight the institution’s overarching mission to elevate medical standards and bolster collaborations across the Pacific region. He extended an invitation to regional healthcare services, encouraging them to send staff for training to enhance shared knowledge across the area.
As PSH Hospitals continues to attract specialists and growing interest from international medical professionals, it is positioning itself as a central hub in the Pacific for advanced care across multiple specialties, including cardiac care, neurosurgery, spine surgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedics, urology, obstetrics, gynecology, and ENT.
