Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) Hospital in Fiji has marked a remarkable achievement by performing consecutive open-heart surgeries over three days, from January 13 to January 15. This milestone represents a significant advance in the hospital’s cardiology capabilities and its commitment to providing critical care locally.

Since the establishment of its multi-million-dollar cardiology department in November 2023, PSH has been a beacon of hope for heart patients. The surgical team, under the guidance of Dr. Sanjeev Khulbey, who brings 30 years of experience in cardiology, has successfully discharged many patients within five days post-operation.

Minister for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, commended the team during his visit on January 15, expressing admiration for this unprecedented accomplishment in Fiji’s healthcare landscape.

Looking ahead, PSH’s founder and CEO Parvish Kumar announced plans for 2025 that include the hiring of Dr. Srikar Miryala, a highly skilled consultant interventional cardiologist, who will be available full-time at the Nadi facility. This addition is set to enhance the rapid response capabilities for emergency cases, as Dr. Miryala will reside near the hospital.

With PSH operating 24/7, the hospital encourages patients to seek treatment at any time, eliminating the delay often associated with accessing critical healthcare services. This commitment not only enhances patient care but also reinforces PSH’s role in transforming healthcare accessibility in Fiji.

The successful performance of these surgeries is not merely significant for the individuals treated but also symbolizes a hopeful future for healthcare in the region. By improving local medical capabilities, PSH has positioned itself as a leader in health tourism, offering affordable and quality healthcare options that rival those found overseas.

PSH’s advancements thus highlight a positive trajectory for healthcare accessibility and the potential boost to economic growth through health tourism, benefitting both local patients and international visitors seeking medical treatment.
