Every year, all 14 provinces of Fiji provide financial contributions to Ratu Sukuna Memorial School. Josefa Toganivalu, the deputy chief executive officer of the iTaukei Affairs Board, emphasized that this commitment was made a few years ago to support the school, which was established to benefit iTaukei students and preserve the legacy of local chiefs.
The school holds significant value, having been founded following a unanimous resolution from the Great Council of Chiefs, and it is named in honor of the esteemed Fijian leader, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna. Toganivalu addressed concerns raised by a district representative over Macuata province contributing $1,000 to the school despite not being in its vicinity. He reassured that the contributions are a point of pride for the provinces and are crucial for the school’s operations and the future of its students.
This initiative not only supports educational development but also underscores the collaborative effort of Fijian provinces to uplift their communities. By fulfilling these pledges, they demonstrate a commitment to the education and well-being of future generations, reflecting a strong cultural and social responsibility.
In summary, the financial pledges from the provinces to Ratu Sukuna Memorial School reinforce the sense of unity and shared purpose among the iTaukei people, ensuring that the school continues to thrive and honor its historical legacy. This cooperation brings hope for a brighter educational future for the students involved.
