Fiji’s Prime Minister Heads to China: What’s at Stake?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is set to embark on an official visit to China starting Monday. This announcement comes from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, the leaders of both nations are expected to engage in detailed discussions about the relationship between China and Fiji, as well as other significant mutual interests. China aims to elevate its comprehensive strategic partnership with Fiji, fostering mutual respect and shared development, while striving to build a closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific Island nations.

Fiji holds the distinction of being the first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic relations with China. Over the past 49 years, the relationship has evolved with notable advancements in exchange and collaboration across various sectors, resulting in benefits for both nations’ populations.

The visit is arranged at the invitation of Li Qiang, the Premier of the State Council of China.
