Fiji’s Prime Minister Eyes Stronger Ties with China on Upcoming Visit

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will embark on a 10-day official visit to China starting Monday. This marks his inaugural trip to the nation since assuming office in December 2022.

According to a statement from Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, the visit will include in-depth discussions between leaders of both countries on significant mutual concerns.

China has welcomed several leaders from Pacific Island nations this year, with Rabuka being the latest to visit. Mao highlighted that this pattern reflects the strong ties between China and the South Pacific region.

“China hopes to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and collaborate with Fiji to foster a closer community with a shared future for China and Pacific Island nations,” Mao stated.

Fiji was the first Pacific Island nation to establish diplomatic relations with China.
