Fiji’s Prime Minister Drives Climate Change Conversation at Commonwealth Meeting

The Fijian community in Samoa extended a warm welcome to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Rabuka expressed his gratitude to the Fijian diaspora and underscored the critical need to tackle climate change, especially in the Pacific Islands, many of which, like Tuvalu, face the threat of submersion.

He stressed the importance of participating in international conferences such as the Conference of the Parties (COP), which plays a vital role in addressing the impacts of climate change and securing international support for affected nations.

Rabuka also reminisced about the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992, a significant event that led to the establishment of the COP. He emphasized the value of collaborative efforts and the necessity of maintaining positive relationships between countries.
