Fiji’s Prime Minister Addresses Inquiry: A Step Toward Government Credibility

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that the cabinet will present a document regarding the investigation or commission of inquiry into allegations made by former Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, Francis Puleiwai.

During a media briefing, Rabuka indicated that this document will outline the ‘Terms of Reference’ and set objectives for the Commission’s members for cabinet consideration.

He emphasized the importance of addressing issues of governmental credibility, as well as the integrity of its institutions and systems.

Rabuka acknowledged that while the past cannot be changed, the Government is committed to ensuring such actions do not recur. He stated, “If anyone has contravened orders, the laws or regulations, they would be fully dealt with.”

Responding to questions about Puleiwai’s allegations of being threatened by government agents, Rabuka denied that such actions could originate from his administration. He suggested that if Puleiwai feels unsafe in Fiji, she should report her concerns to the police.

Rabuka also reassured Puleiwai that she would be welcomed back to Fiji. He referenced a report that was retracted by ABC, noting the question of credibility surrounding Puleiwai’s claims.

The Prime Minister concluded by assuring all Fijians of their safety.
