The enthusiasm surrounding the Tuckers Ice-Cream Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championship is reaching new heights as the event approaches. Patrick Bower, the president of Fiji Primary Schools Athletics, highlights the incredible excitement from both students and parents this year, with 21 districts set to participate—a record turnout for the competition.

Bower noted the eagerness of the students, who are keen to display their athletic skills on the track. “The hype we are experiencing is truly remarkable; students are anxiously waiting for the games to commence,” he stated. There have even been expressions of interest from students in Vanualevu Schools about hosting the competition, despite the challenges posed by inadequate facilities.

This year’s increased participation reflects the hard work and outreach efforts made to connect with districts and provide essential support. Bower underscored the importance of training officials and thoroughly preparing for the event, indicating that many schools have benefited from this proactive approach.

“It’s a huge event, and we’re strict on the rules. All leaders are cooperating well, and by next Tuesday, everything will be set for the competition,” Bower added. The backing from sponsors like Tuckers has played a crucial role in ensuring the event’s success, providing necessary resources to help it flourish.

As the countdown to this exciting two-day event at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva begins, Bower and his team are working hard to ensure a seamless championship. The event will take place next Thursday and Friday, promising to be a thrilling showcase of young talent in athletics.

This year’s championship is not just an opportunity for students to compete but also serves as a celebration of community spirit, athletic development, and support from local sponsors. As the event approaches, the hope is that it will inspire a new generation of athletes in Fiji, further promoting the importance of sports and fitness among the youth.
