After H.E. Ratu Wiliam Katonivere withdrew from the presidential nomination, Prime Minister Rabuka has put forward Honourable Speaker Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu Na Gone Turaga Bale na Tui Cakau as his nominee. Rabuka indicated that he consulted with the Parliamentary Caucus of The People’s Alliance, which has officially endorsed Ratu Naiqama’s nomination for the presidency.
The Turaga na Tui Cakau has given his formal consent to be nominated. “As Prime Minister, I will present his name under section 84(2) of the Constitution during the special sitting of Parliament on Thursday, October 31, 2024,” Rabuka stated. He called on all Fijians to join him and the Coalition Government in efforts to unite the nation and foster social cohesion, peace, stability, and prosperity.
