The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, will head a delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) taking place in New York.
World leaders will convene for the annual high-level General Debate, centered around the theme: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.” President Katonivere is expected to present Fiji’s national statement during the General Debate scheduled for Thursday of the following week.
Beyond the General Debate, the Fijian delegation will participate in significant meetings occurring on the sidelines of the Assembly. The UN General Assembly convenes each September to tackle important global challenges through specific agenda items and resolutions.
President Katonivere’s attendance at UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s commitment to international cooperation, sustainable development, and the promotion of peace and prosperity for all. While he is attending the assembly, Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo will assume his responsibilities. President Katonivere is anticipated to return to Fiji on November 3rd.
