The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, is set to head a delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The annual high-level General Debate will bring together world leaders and focus on the theme: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.” President Katonivere will present Fiji’s national statement during the General Debate scheduled for Thursday next week.
Apart from the General Debate, the Fijian delegation will participate in several important meetings on the sidelines of the General Assembly. The UN General Assembly convenes every September to tackle pressing global issues through specific agenda items and resolutions.
President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s commitment to international cooperation, sustainable development, and promoting peace and prosperity for all. During his absence, Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo will assume the presidential responsibilities.
President Katonivere is expected to return to Fiji on the 3rd of next month.
