Fiji’s President Shines at UNGA: A Warm Welcome and Global Vision

Fiji’s President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is currently in New York for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He received a traditional welcoming ceremony from the Fijian community in New York ahead of the UNGA this week.

In his speech, President Katonivere expressed sincere gratitude to the Fijian community for their warm welcome to the delegation. He recognized their consistent support for families in Fiji, emphasizing the significant role their financial contributions play in the country’s economic development.

The President also expressed appreciation for Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Filipo Tarakinikini, commending his leadership and efforts to promote Fiji’s interests on the global stage.

He highlighted that the attendance of the diaspora at the welcoming ceremony reflects the unity and togetherness of Fijian families living abroad. “Even though they are far from home, they continue to carry Fiji in their hearts, strengthening the connection between overseas Fijians and their homeland,” he stated.

Among those present were Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ratu Ilisoni Vudireketi. President Katonivere’s involvement in the UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and the pursuit of peace, prosperity, and progress for all.
