Fiji’s President Shines at UNGA: A Heartfelt Welcome in New York

Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, has arrived in New York to participate in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Prior to the UNGA proceedings later this week, Ratu Wiliame was warmly welcomed by the Fijian community living in New York during a traditional ceremony.

In his remarks, President Katonivere expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception his delegation received. He acknowledged the support of the diaspora, emphasizing the significant impact of their financial contributions on Fiji’s economic development.

He extended his appreciation to Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Filipo Tarakinikini, for his effective leadership and efforts in promoting Fiji’s interests internationally. The President highlighted that the gathering of the diaspora at the welcoming ceremony exemplifies the unity and solidarity among Fijian families abroad.

“Even from afar, they hold Fiji close to their hearts, strengthening the connection between overseas Fijians and their home country,” he stated.

The event was also attended by Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ratu Ilisoni Vudireketi. President Katonivere’s involvement in the UNGA underscores Fiji’s commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and the pursuit of peace, prosperity, and progress for all.
