Fiji’s President Makes Waves at UNGA 79

Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, is currently in New York for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Ratu Wiliame received a traditional welcoming ceremony from the Fijian Diaspora in New York in preparation for the UNGA, which takes place later this week.

In his remarks, President Katonivere expressed his sincere appreciation to the Fijian community for their warm reception of the delegation. He recognized their unwavering support for families back home and underscored the significant role their financial contributions play in the economic development of Fiji.

The President also thanked Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Filipo Tarakinikini, for his effective leadership and efforts in promoting Fiji’s interests on the international stage.

He pointed out that the presence of the diaspora at the welcoming event symbolizes the unity and togetherness of Fijian families living abroad. “Even while far from home, they carry Fiji in their hearts, which strengthens the bond between overseas Fijians and their homeland,” he stated.

The event was also attended by Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Ratu Ilisoni Vudireketi.

President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s strong commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and the promotion of peace, prosperity, and progress for all.
