Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, is currently in New York for the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Prior to the UNGA, the Fijian Diaspora in New York conducted a traditional welcoming ceremony for the President and his delegation.
In his remarks, President Katonivere expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception from the Fijian community, acknowledging their vital support for families in Fiji and emphasizing the importance of their financial contributions to the country’s economic development.
He also extended gratitude to Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Filipo Tarakinikini, recognizing his effective leadership and advocacy for Fiji’s interests globally. The President pointed out that the attendance of the diaspora at the ceremony reflects the unity and closeness of Fijian families living abroad, stating that even when distant from home, they uphold a strong connection to Fiji.
Attendees included Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel and Fiji’s Ambassador to the United States, Ratu Ilisoni Vudireketi. President Katonivere’s participation in the UNGA underscores Fiji’s commitment to global cooperation, sustainable development, and the pursuit of peace, prosperity, and progress for all.
